DaVinci Resolve 18 Beta 4 Update

This is a release I’m especially excited for… the new Surface Tracker is now available in Fusion!

It’s a great tool for VFX workflows, so it makes more sense to me for it to be used there rather than the color page (though you can use it wherever it makes sense for you!)

Lots of other bugs have been fixed too.

From BMD:

This software update adds support for Resolve FX surface tracker in the Fusion page, allows exporting IMSC1 or DFXP subtitles directly from the edit page as well as the ability to drag different formats into the Fairlight timeline to create matching tracks. In addition, this update adds improvements to some 3D plug-in loading in Fusion, improved refresh function when changing stroke softness for Fusion paint, improved post-filter map finesse with fewer artifacts for Resolve FX Depth Map, addressed inconsistent navigation for clip markers in the Fairlight timeline as well as general performance and stability improvements.

Complete list of updates below.

As always, be sure to back up your database before updating.

  1. It’s proper broke now unfortunately. Two major issues the first being that when I import clips into a bin the audio is fine as per usual, when I place on timeline the audio gets messed up and no waveforms appear (although it plays some audio after a couple of seconds into the clip but is all over the place). Second one is strange and is a fusion issue. Importing PSD files should just result in one node as it did previously but now we get lots of weird nodes that I have no idea what they are. The betas have been great so far but this one has really messed things up for me – Macbook Pro Mac 16″ 32Gb. Had none of these problems before.

    • It sounds like your audio waveform in the timeline issue is the same issue I’ve seen for a while. Without anymore context of your problem, Im guessing that you are importing .mkv files.

That was the culprit when I had the same waveform-not-displaying issue. Try importing any mp4 and I bet that your waveform displays as it should.

I never get that issue anymore. Because now I only import MP4

  2. Surface tracker in fusion seems to crash everytime i go to the Mesh button

Surface tracker in Color tab does not let me move each point independently of the others. Actually, i can only move the first one or two points. I miss Beta 3.
