Make Your Own Preset Plugins in DaVinci Resolve

When there’s an effect or graphic you plan on re-using for your projects, you can save lots of time by making your own preset!

Any Fusion composition can be turned into a macro — basically a custom plugin. You can configure settings that are editable and then access these from the edit page to easily access for future projects.

This is great for custom overlays, titles, motion graphics, and other effects that you use all the time.

Here it’s an arrow, but you can apply the process to just about anything. You’re only limited by your creativity!

The use of anim curves here is a great feature to get familiar with so that any animation you create is relative to the clip itself, so you can easily animate without needing any keyframes.

In this video from Casey Faris, you’ll learn about:

  • Creating a new Fusion composition
  • Adding a transparent background
  • Drawing an arrow with shape nodes
  • Adding an Underlay
  • Moving on screen with Transform
  • Animating with Anim Curves modifier
  • Fading in with blend animation
  • Custom animation curve shape
  • Creating a macro
  • Adding into Template folder
  • Accessing from Edit page
